The California Wrongful Convictions Project is collecting data on criminal convictions in California state and/or federal courts that are dismissed or overturned and result in acquittal or dismissal, as well as cases where official misconduct resulted in civil damages. Cases will be included in the preliminary dataset only if they can be confirmed through court records or attorneys of record.
Please let us know if you have information about a case of official misconduct (police or prosecutorial) that resulted in the award of civil damages, or about a case that:
- Was heard in California State or Federal Court
- Was reversed or overturned after January 1, 1989
- Involved official misconduct and resulted in an award of damages
We are interested in cases that resulted in an acquittal or dismissal, as well as cases that settled or plead out to after a successful appeal.
If you have questions, comments, suggestions, or thoughts about the project, send us an email.
To submit information about a relevant case, please use the following form. Fill in whatever information you can, then click the 'Submit' button.
